Planning your renovation
What happens at a design consultation?
We visit your home, measure the room, look at the framing, floor, plumbing, drainage and ventilation, and talk through how you want the space to work. We then prepare drawings where needed and a written scope and quotation.
Which towns do you cover?
Drouin 3818 and nearby towns including Drouin West, Drouin South, Warragul, Buln Buln, Darnum, Longwarry, Bunyip, Garfield, Tynong, Nar Nar Goon, Labertouche, Jindivick and Neerim South.
Why don’t you publish fixed figures for bathrooms?
Every room differs in size, condition, layout and selections, and hidden issues such as rotted framing change the scope. A visit lets us give you an accurate written quotation rather than a guess.
Can I supply my own tiles and fixtures?
Usually, yes. We check your selections suit the waterproofing system, rough-in positions and layout, and confirm delivery times before booking trades.
Do you help with design if I am not sure what I want?
Yes. We help you choose layout, storage, lighting and finishes, and we can bring samples to the consultation.
Do you renovate laundries and powder rooms as well?
Yes. We renovate laundries, powder rooms and combined bathroom-laundry spaces, often as part of the same project.
Drouin homes
We live in a newer Drouin estate. Is it worth renovating a near-new ensuite?
Many builder-grade ensuites have small showers, limited storage and basic fittings. Upgrading the layout, screen, vanity and lighting can transform the room, and we check the existing waterproofing as part of the work.
Our older home is on stumps. Does that change anything?
Timber floors flex and move, so we check stumps, bearers and joists, choose suitable substrates and membranes, and plan movement joints. Some floors need levelling or restumping first.
We are on tank water. Will a new shower perform well?
Yes, with planning. We consider pump capacity, pressure, filtration and fixture flow rates so the shower works well without wasting water.
Can you add an ensuite on a property with septic?
Often, but additional fixtures increase wastewater load and may need council approval for changes to the on-site system. We raise this early so there are no surprises.
Might my older bathroom contain asbestos?
Homes built before 1990 may contain asbestos in wall sheeting, eaves or vinyl. We arrange testing where suspected, and any removal is carried out by licensed removalists before our work begins.
Waterproofing and compliance
What standard do you waterproof to?
All wet areas are waterproofed in line with AS 3740, the Australian Standard for waterproofing domestic wet areas, with membranes applied to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Will I get records of the waterproofing?
Yes. We photograph each stage before it is covered and include the photos and relevant certificates in your handover pack.
My shower is leaking into the next room. Can you fix it?
We assess the shower, explain what has failed and recommend repairs or a full rebuild with a new membrane. Water damage to framing and floors is repaired before retiling.
Are your trades licensed?
Yes. We are licensed and insured, and plumbing and electrical work is carried out by licensed trades who issue compliance certificates where required.
Do I need a building permit for a bathroom renovation?
Most like-for-like internal renovations do not, but structural changes, extensions or some plumbing alterations may. We advise on approvals during the consultation.
Timing and living at home
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
It depends on size, complexity and selections. We give you a written schedule before work starts and keep you updated on progress.
Can we live at home during the renovation?
Most families do. We protect floors and entries, contain dust and keep the site tidy. If it is your only bathroom, we plan ahead with you for the period it is out of use.
Why does waterproofing take extra days?
Membranes need curing time between coats and before tiling. Rushing this step risks failure, so we build cure times into the schedule.
When should we book?
Get in touch as early as you can, especially if you want work done before a particular date. Custom vanities, screens and some tiles have longer lead times.
Design and features
Can you create a walk-in or step-free shower?
Yes. Step-free showers need careful floor preparation and drainage, and on timber floors we may recess the floor framing. We design falls and drainage to suit.
Is underfloor heating worth it in Drouin?
Winters here are cold and damp, and many clients find heated floors and towel rails make the bathroom far more comfortable. We discuss running time and controls at the consultation.
How do you stop mould coming back?
By fixing the cause: a ducted exhaust fan vented outside, suitable run-on timers, sealed junctions, mould-resistant paint and good waterproofing.
Can you design a bathroom for ageing or accessibility?
Yes. We plan step-free showers, wall reinforcement for grab rails, wider doorways, comfortable heights and slip-resistant floors, so the room suits you now and later.
Do you install freestanding baths?
Yes. We check floor strength, waste positions and tapware options, as freestanding baths are heavy when full and need careful plumbing.
What tiles do you recommend for family bathrooms?
Durable porcelain with suitable slip resistance on floors, larger formats for fewer grout lines, and mid-tone colours that hide marks well.
After the renovation
What do we receive at handover?
A walk-through of the finished room, care instructions, manufacturer warranties, waterproofing records and compliance certificates.
What if something needs attention after we finish?
Contact us and we will arrange to inspect it. We stand behind our workmanship and help with any warranty claims on products.
How should we care for grout and silicone?
Use pH-neutral cleaners, ventilate after showers, and check silicone joints each year. We include a simple care guide at handover.
